Play Proposals for 2019-2020 Season

The performance dates we have requested for the 2019-2020 season are:

For members’ convenience in preparing to choose the 2019-2020 season at our April 16th meeting, here (in alphabetical order by title) is a list of the proposals received so far:

Annie (Full Proposal) - Winter, 2020
    Director:  Dan Dunham & Bruce Wolfe
    Synopsis:  Despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City, Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan.  With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC.  In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations . . . and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt!  She finds a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
    Characters:  4+ Men, 3+ Women, 2+ Boys, 7+ Girls, 1 Any.

Clue:  the Musical (Full Proposal) - Fall, 2019
    Director:  Sylvia Abbott
    Synopsis:  The internationally popular game is now a fun filled musical that brings the world's best-known suspects to life and invites the audience to help solve the mystery:  who killed Mr. Boddy, in what room, and with what weapon.  The audience receives forms to help them deduce the solution from clues given throughout the action.  Three audience members choose from cards representing the potential murderers, weapons, and rooms.  Only one hard nosed female detective is allowed to unravel the mayhem.  Comic antics, witty lyrics, and a delightful score carry the investigation from room to room.  Even after the culprit confesses, a surprise twist delights the audience.
    Characters:  5 Men, 3 Women, No Boys, No Girls.

Disney's Frozen JR. (Full Proposal) - Christmas, 2019
    Director:  Jodi MacNeal
    Synopsis:  Princesses Elsa and Anna find love and acceptance as they face an emotional journey to restore their powerful sisterly bond.  They share their journey with the townspeople of Arendelle, a humorous snowman, a reindeer, the hidden folk, and the snow chorus.  This is a show sure to melt the coldest of hearts through magic, adventure, and humor.
    Characters:  Boys & Girls, ages 5 - 18.

The Lion in Winter (Full Proposal) (Script) - June 21, 2020
    Director:  Karen Chan
    Synopsis:  Sibling rivalry, adultery, and dungeons.  The Lion in Winter, by James Goldman, is a modern- day classic.  Comedic in tone, dramatic in action; the play tells the story of the Plantagenet family, who are locked in a free-for-all of competing ambitions to inherit a kingdom.  Christmas 1183.
    Characters:  5 Men, 2 Women, 1 Any.

Radium Girls (Full Proposal) - Spring 2020
    Director:  Celeste Parsons
    Synopsis:  In 1926, radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie an international celebrity, and luminous watches the latest rage—until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease.  Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court.  Her chief adversary is her former employer, Arthur Roeder, an idealistic man who cannot bring himself to believe that the same element that shrinks tumors could have anything to do with the terrifying rash of illnesses among his employees.  As Grace seeks justive, she must deal with adversaries and supporters with a range of motoves including corporate greed, faith in science, quackery, love, family crises, support of workers' rights, and self-promotion.
    Characters:  5 Men, 4 Women, Extras.

The Rocky Horror Show (Full Proposal) - Fall 2019
    Director:  Alexis Parsons
    Synopsis:  A humorous tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the late 1940s through to the early 1970.  Brad and Janet, a newly engaged couple, get caught in a storm and come to the home of a mad transvestite scientist, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, who unveils his new creation, a sort of Frankenstein-style monster in the form of an artificially made, fully grown, physically perfect muscle man named Rocky Horror, complete "with blond hair and a tan."  This happens by the 6th musical number out of 17, and there are many more campy kinks before the grand finale.
    Characters:  6-7 Principal Men (at least 2 COULD BE portrayed by females), 3 Principal Women, 6 Phantoms (ensemble).

Sister Act (Full Proposal) - Winter 2020
    Director:  Devin Sudman
    Synopsis:  When disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be a found: a convent!  Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior.  Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover.  Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.
    Characters:  7 Men, 9 Women, No Boys, No Girls.
