At Home with the Stanleys*

Meet the Stanleys On the Landing
Meet Daisy and Ernest Stanley and their adorable children, Richard and June. Here they are on the landing of the staircase in the Stanley home in Masalia, Ohio.
Writing Desk Love Seat
Here's the little writing desk Daisy's mother gave her when she got married. A December 16, 1940 copy of Time magazine lies on the love seat, with healthy philodendron plant and period telephone nearby. A box of Whiteman's chocolates is visible on the table behind the love seat.
Dead Plant Christmas Tree
A bit later, after the visiting Mr. Whiteside has poured some of his medicine into the plant's container, the philodendron isn't doing so well. It's Christmas Eve, packages are under the tree, and the lights on the tree are illuminated.
Fancy Trim Piano
The chandelier on the landing helps illuminate the expensive wood trim on the pocket doors and trim details at floor, ceiling, and around door openings that cost Mr. Stanley so much when he had the house built. The Stanleys had Richard's silhouette made at the county fair when he was seven. The Stanleys purchased the grand piano for June's lessons.
Stair Detail View from Balcony
The servants are not fond of dusting all the detail work on the staircase. A view into the Stanley's living room from above, showing detail of the library and dining room.
Library Wall Treatment
A peek into the Stanley's library. Mrs. Stanley hired a specialty painter from the Troll Road Artists Colony to decorate her walls.
Fighting Stanleys
The Stanleys are very happy in their beautiful home.

*Note: In case you reached this site without going through the Athenian Players Theatre site, the pictures here show the set that was built for our May 2006 production of Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman's comedy The Man Who Came to Dinner. The set was designed by Steve Haskins, who also supervised its construction.
